Character Design

As an artist who hopes to one day create a published work all of my own I realized how important it is going to be for me to be able to keep designs consistent between each work! from animations to comic pages I want to be sure that my designs clearly tell a story, have unique silhouettes, and most importantly for me are able to be translated from piece to piece easily!

Designing for Animation

For this design I wanted to have a design that would be easy to move around, to split into many parts, and to easily identify at a glance or in a crowd! I also wanted to keep in mind what sort of outfits this character might be found in, and so I created this spread! By using this simple pose I was able to clearly communicate the different ideas I had for each outfit, showing details that would important to remember!

Designing for a Comic

While the concepts of this are still in the works, I do hope to make a comic someday, and so I need designs that are again, clear, unique, and easy to replicate. but this time I wanted to put the emphasis on simple interactions or expressions the character might have through the story.

Designing for Illustration

While the idea of designing for a comic and animation are similar in their need for simplicity, when I have the ability to create a design with more attention to detail I do not shy away! I absolutely love being able to put extra thought into a design and spend time developing a story that I can convey through their Illustration! When the designs are ment for still illustrations I get to play a little more with how much I put into the design, and as such their designs often end up a little less cartoony!
